Tower Awards This Wednesday

This Wednesday, band is performing at the HBHS Tower Awards ceremony. We will be performing our new music repertoire as the audience is finding their seats before the ceremony, and then performing snippets of different songs between each departments awards.

Students need to be in dressed in concert black. That means dress shoes, black dress clothes/long black dress. The only exception are students who are nominated for an award themselves. Those students are encouraged to dress nicely however they choose.

Jazz Cabaret This Friday

Our annual Jazz Cabaret is this Friday at 7pm in the HBHS student center. This is a super fun evening, and a great way to celebrate a great year of jazz band! Come ready to dance to some swing music!

Memorial Day Ceremony & Pops Concert Next Week

Next week is also packed with performances, with both of these performances happening:

  • Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday @ 11am at the HBHS Downtown Plaza

  • Pops Concert on Tuesday @ 6pm at the HBHS outdoor amphitheater

Other than a short performance from the Jazz Big Band at Distinguished Oiler Ceremony on June 3rd, those are our last performances of the year!

Colorguard Workshops This Week

Do you know anyone interested in joining our Championship-winning Colorguard team? Workshops are being hosted this Tuesday @ 3:30pm and Wednesday @ 2pm in front of the Music Building. Please share the word with anyone that might be interested!

Email Tara at tchoat@hbuhsd.edu with any questions.

Family Contributions

We have already began to plan for next year's marching band production, upcoming concerts, hiring (and re-hiring) of staff members, and purchasing new instruments and equipment for our students to play on. As we plan for these things, we have to take into account what we have raised through fundraising and family contributions.

While our Band Champs fundraiser was a huge success, we only had about 50% of families pay their contributions for Marching Band, and close to 0% for the Spring Ensembles (wind ensemble, drumline, and jazz band).

Because of this, we unfortunately have to begin considering difficult decisions for next year, including reducing the number of amazing specialists we re-hire to work with the students, re-think the type of marching band show we can afford to have written, and cutting back on instrument repairs and maintenance.

As a reminder, the school district only pays for my salary as a teacher. They do not fund uniforms, sheet music, instruments, supplies, specialists, or the many other things that our incredible boosters have made possible.

Please make your family contribution for the ensembles your student is participating in, so we can continue to offer a high-quality, and student-centered music program.

Also, if you did not make your 1st Semester Marching Band Family contribution, please consider still that Marching Band Family Contribution Payment.

If you have any questions, please reach out to our treasurer, Jeremiah Hewitt, at hewitt78@gmail.com.
