Oct 19th, 2026 Band & Colorguard Notes

Weekly Recap
Congratulations band and colorguard on a fantastic start to the season! We have placed 1st at both of our first two competitions, and at University High School last weekend we also took home the high percussion and high auxiliary award.
APA Orchestra had a great opening weekend of Phantom of The Opera. I hope everyone is able to make it out this next weekend for the final set of shows!
Thursday's Home Football Game vs Troy HS
This Thursday is our next HBHS Varsity Football game. We will be performing our competitive show at half-time, so I hope everyone is able to make it out to watch.
It is also Middle School night! We will be welcoming about 50 students from Dwyer Middle School to play with us in the stands.
Saturday's Competition @ Bolsa Grande HS / Phantom of The Opera
This coming Saturday, we are traveling to Bolsa Grande HS for our next competition.
It is also a performance of APA's Phantom of The Opera that evening. If your student is just in band, this competition will be very similar to every other competition. If your student is in band AND APA's Phantom of The Opera, please read below:
As soon as the band is done performing at Bolsa Grande HS around 4:45, the students performing later in Phantom will be driven back to Huntington Beach HS right away. Students will then change into their concert blacks, eat some food, and then decompress for just a little bit.
Those students will be responsible for making sure their uniform gets put away when they get back to the HS.
Please let Mr. Floyd know if you have any questions about logistics.
2026 March-A-Thon
Our 2026 Oiler Band March-a-Thon fundraiser is kicking off this week! This will be one of our major fundraising efforts this year, with a goal of raising $15,000 to support the Oiler Band and Color Guard. Students will be reaching out to friends, family, neighbors, and other supporters to help raise money for our program. The campaign will run from October 21 through November 21 (Champs!), and we'll have some fun competitions and prizes for students and sections along the way.
Tomorrow (Monday), students will be coming home with a worksheet to help them put together a list of at least 10 people they can reach out to for support. We ask that parents help their students brainstorm names and gather email addresses so they're ready to go! On Wednesday, October 21, we'll be sending out our fundraising emails to everyone on their lists to officially kick off the campaign during class. We'll also be sharing information about how parents can help spread the word through social media and their own networks. Thank you in advance for helping make this fundraiser a success!
Biggest Fundraiser of The Year... CSBC Champs!!!
In case you haven't heard, our biggest fundraiser of the year is on Nov 21st, 2026. About a month away! We raise about a quarter of the yearly Oiler Music Guild budget in a single day, thanks to all of the student and parent help to make it happen.
Hosting Champs is a huge honor, and we have a strong tradition of receiving high praise from CSBC for the way we run this event. We want to continue that tradition, but we need YOUR help to make it happen!
Here’s how you can help:
Volunteer: There are many ways to contribute throughout the day. Please sign up for a shift that works for you (I have included all of the volunteering links below in the next section).
Step into a leadership role: We still need a few more chairpersons to help lead key areas of the event. If you're willing to take on a leadership position, we would love to have you!
Save the date for your student: Participation in Champs is required for all student musicians, so please make sure both you and your student are available on November 21.
