Costa Mesa Jazz Festival This Saturday, April 26th
This Saturday our Jazz Lab Band and Jazz Big Band will be performing in competition at the Costa Mesa HS Jazz Festival. It's our first performance in competition for both groups this year.
Please come out and support! We would love for our jazz band parents to fill the Costa Mesa HS Auditorium. It's free attendance, no ticket purchase required.
Students will need their own transportation to Costa Mesa HS and will get picked up from there as well.
Students need to bring their music, instruments, and instruments home with them on Friday after rehearsals (mutes for brass players too).
Lab Band and Big Band have different call-times and dismissal times, please make sure students are aware of their own schedule.
Dress is concert black.
The schedule is listed below in the weekly schedule section. Please reach out if you have any questions at all!
Drumline Finals @ AB Miller HS this Sunday!
This Sunday, drumline travels for the second time to AB Miller HS for WGASC finals. Please come out and support our last performance in competition! More info from WGASC like the site address, ticket cost, etc can be found here.
Please volunteer! Our biggest need will again be parent drivers. Please sign up to volunteer by clicking here.
We will be performing one final time, Monday, April 27th, at Marina HS. It's the HBUHSD Drumline/Colorguard showcase so please come out and support both HBHS groups!
Please email me if you have any questions at all afloyd@hbuhsd.edu
Family Contributions
We have already began to plan for next year's marching band production, upcoming concerts, hiring (and re-hiring) of staff members, and purchasing new instruments and equipment for our students to play on. As we plan for these things, we have to take into account what we have raised through fundraising and family contributions.
While our Band Champs fundraiser was a huge success, we only had about 50% of families pay their contributions for Marching Band, and close to 0% for the Spring Ensembles (wind ensemble, drumline, and jazz band).
Because of this, we unfortunately have to begin considering difficult decisions for next year, including reducing the number of amazing specialists we re-hire to work with the students, re-think the type of marching band show we can afford to have written, and cutting back on instrument repairs and maintenance.
As a reminder, the school district only pays for my salary as a teacher. They do not fund uniforms, sheet music, instruments, supplies, specialists, or the many other things that our incredible boosters have made possible.
Please make your family contribution for the ensembles your student is participating in, so we can continue to offer a high-quality, and student-centered music program.
2nd Semester Wind Ensemble Contribution Payment (new music, instruments, repairs, etc)
2nd Semester Drumline Contribution Payment (new floor, uniforms, props, instruments, etc)
2nd Semester Jazz Band Contribution Payment (competition fees, clinicians, new music, etc)
Also, if you did not make your 1st Semester Marching Band Family contribution, please consider still that Marching Band Family Contribution Payment.
If you have any questions, please reach out to our treasurer, Jeremiah Hewitt, at hewitt78@gmail.com.
